Physical Therapy Management of Cervical and Thoracic Conditions – February 22nd & 23rd, 2025 – Gillette, NJ

Have you ever picked up a fellow clinicians chart and needed to take a few minutes to try and figure out what was done with the patient, almost like it was written in another language? Manual therapy instruction is provided with a singular goal in mind, to help improve patients quality of life, however, its instruction is highly varied among individual schools.  Current evidence suggests that treating within the Treatment Based Classification (TBC) provides the best results.  The techniques can be varied among practitioners, but so long as they know where the patient is within the TBC framework, and understanding can be reached.  This course is designed to provide a framework for clinicians speak a similar language.

Neck pain and motion impairment is a common issue with upwards of 70% of the population experiencing this ailment at some time in their life. Treatment of neck pain may be daunting for many clinicians as there are many different ways a patient can present with many different approaches to treatment available for clinicians. Current evidence has shown that by using the Treatment Based Classification system, patients with neck pain will show improvement in their condition compared to patients who are not treated using the system.

The aim of this course is to introduce the Treatment Based Classification system and Clinical Practice Guidelines in order to allow for therapists to approach neck pain from a common framework, in essence, starting to speak the same language.

By completing this course, the clinician will have a more streamlined approach to selection of special tests, exercises and manual therapy interventions.

Advanced manual therapy techniques, with an emphasis on manipulation will be the majority of the lab.  Lab will also include exercise progression after manipulation, and neurological re-education for patients where use of manipulation is not indicated.
